Gambling can be defined as “risking money randomly in order to duplicate”. The Bible does not specifically condemn gambling, betting and lottery. However, the Bible warns us from the passion of money.
The Bible has some hazy mentioning in terms like „luck” or „chance”. Some examples in this sense are: in Leviticus the faith of the offer goat and the squandering goat is decided by drawing of lots, Joshua was drawing for lots in order to decide how to divide the land, Nehemiah did it to decide who will live in Jerusalem or outside its walls. Even the Apostles have drawn of lots to see who will be the follower of Judah. But nowhere in the Bible luck or „chance” is referred to as being forms of entertainment or fun.
So what is in overall so wrong about gambling? These games are tough subjects as when they are practiced occasionally and moderate are truly a waste of money, but not necessarily in a negative way. People waste their money for different kind of activities. Sometimes we pay good money for a bad movie, eat expensive dinners or buy something we don’t actually need. However, the fact that we throw out money for other things not justify ambling. Money in overall should not be wasted. The extra income should be turned into something useful, good or even donated – not lost in gambling.
Casinos use all sorts of tactics and marketing tricks to lure customers in order to gamble for money. The bid may contain cheap or free drinks, targeting a blurry consciousness and the lack of making wise decisions. In online casinos the general idea is to take more money away from the customer and give back a few or nothing, just empty and vanishing pleasures. Lotteries try to represent themselves as a way of supporting education and/or social programs. However, studies have shown that lottery participants are in general those who can afford at least the tickets.
The temptation of „easy income” is a too high for the desperate to resist. The winning chances are sometimes low, occasionally destroying lives.
